![]() ![]() For example a few months after LR6 came out, CC had an update for a "dehaze" feature, they added it to CC but the slider is not there in LR6, and Adobe won't add it until they come out with LR7. If you get the CC subscription you will get regular updates for new camera support and they will occasionally put out an update that adds additional features that the purchase version will not get until the next purchased upgrade. ![]() During that period of updates, they will not add new features (you get what you paid for, nothing more). When you purchase LR6 you get LR6 and they will put out updates that will let you open files from new cameras until LR7 comes out, after which there will be no updates. One note regarding purchasing vs the subscription. ![]() Personally the price is pretty cheap for what it is (a digital asset management system and a RAW processor), if you think it's expensive, maybe you don't need it that badly. If you don't like giving money to Adobe could buy an alternative product like Capture One Pro ($300). So if you have a camera that came out after LR5 was released and you buy a copy of LR4, it will not read the RAW files and you will not be able to update it to read the RAW files unless you pay to upgrade it to LR5 or LR6. If you plan on shooting RAW, be careful when looking at older versions as Lightroom needs to be updated every time a new camera comes out to support the new RAW format, and Adobe does not update older versions of Lightroom after a new version comes out. You can download it and get a free trial to test it out and see if it's worth the cost. If you are a student or work for a school (or know someone that does) you can see about getting an educational version for closer to $80. If you're looking at buying new gear in the near future, you can see if places like B&H will occasionally offer a deal where they'll sell lightroom for a discount if you make an eligible purchase (and item over a certain value). ![]() Please direct non-lightroom topics to the most appropriate of the following!
